On 12 May 2021, YLAL sent a survey to its members.
The purpose of this was to gain an understanding into the likely number of members who may be eligible for the proposed Social Welfare Lawyers’ Qualification Fund.
The Fund intends to provide greater access to justice, by creating new social welfare solicitors. The City of London Law Society, supported by BARBRI (a training provider), will provide funding for the SQE preparatory courses and assessment fees to aspiring solicitors working for organisations serving disadvantaged communities. It will be aimed at those already working in social welfare law. YLAL, along with other representatives from the legal aid sector, is working alongside the organisations administering the scheme.
