#YLALVirtual 28 April 2021 – Protecting human rights in an age of authoritarianism

At our #YLALVirtual on Wednesday 28 April at 6.30pm, our incredible expert panel (featuring Shami Chakrabarti, Michael Mansfield QC, Chai Patel, Katy Watts and Audrey Cherryl Mogan) discussed the issues and impact of legislative policy seen in the debates on:

  • the genocide amendment to the Trade Bill;
  • the Covert Human Intelligence Sources (Criminal Conduct) Act 2021;
  • the Government’s New Plan for Immigration; and
  • the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill.

Some of our excellent YLAL volunteers also produced fact sheets on each of the items (combined reading time approx. 20 minutes). We are grateful to Luned Jewell, Anuya Pai, Wing S. Ng and Samantha Orenstein for their work on these. In addition, the team at Liberty has kindly allowed us to share its briefing on the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill before second reading in the House of Commons (March 2021) which goes into additional detail.

We are grateful to Garden Court Chambers for hosting the event.
